Herrington Arms HC43 Compensator
A single-port comp that flattens the 43X's snappy impulse without turning it into a fireball.
Overview
Machined 7075 aluminum, threads onto a 1/2x28 barrel, and stays inside the slide profile so it doesn't add printing width. It's tuned for standard-pressure 9mm rather than competition loads, which is exactly what a carry gun needs.
Why I chose this
I wanted the flattest shooting slim gun I could get without adding width. The HC43 stays inside the slide silhouette, which the PMM comp does not do as cleanly.
Real world performance
About 2,100 rounds with the comp. Measurable reduction in muzzle rise and faster sight recovery. Two failures to fully cycle with 115gr steel case, none with 124gr brass or defensive loads.
Concealed carry impact
Adds length, not width, so printing is nearly unchanged in AIWB. You will need a holster cut for the comp — most 43X holsters are too short.

Not marketing copy — carry experience
This is the part people expect me to say is a gimmick, and it isn't — but the benefit is subtler than the internet claims. My split times improved about 0.06 seconds on average, which is real but not life-changing. The bigger deal is that the gun stopped punishing me during 300-round practice sessions, so I shoot it more. That's the actual value: it buys you training volume. Two honest tradeoffs. First, it's louder and there's more flash at the sides, which matters if you ever shoot indoors without doubled hearing protection. Second, it's the part most likely to induce a malfunction if you run weak ammo — light 115gr practice loads short-stroked twice in my first outing before I switched to 124gr. If you carry defensive ammo and practice with 124gr, you'll never notice. If you buy the cheapest steel case at the counter, skip the comp.

Installation tips
- Torque to spec against the barrel shoulder with the crush washer or shim stack provided.
- Confirm the comp is clocked so the ports face up, then witness-mark it.
- Function-test 50 rounds of your carry load before trusting it.
Lessons learned
- Comp + light + 124gr = the sweet spot. Change one variable at a time when testing.
- Carbon builds in the ports fast. Clean them every session or the comp loses effect.
Mistakes to avoid
- Running it with a stock spring and bargain 115gr ammo.
- Over-torquing and galling the barrel threads.
- Assuming your old holster will work.

Do I need a lighter recoil spring?+
Not with 124gr or defensive ammo. With weak 115gr, expect issues either way.
Is it legal everywhere?+
A comp is not an NFA item, but a threaded barrel is restricted in a few jurisdictions. Check yours.
Will it fit my holster?+
Only if the holster is cut for the comp. Order accordingly.
